The Jefferson Davis Community College Lady Warhawk softball team will begin their 2010 season on Thursday, Feb 4, at home against Central Alabama. The 2010 schedule for the Warhawks shows 26 games with 20 doubleheaders.

With the upcoming season only a week away, UTC hosted its media and fan day Thursday at the UTC Hitting Facility. More than 15 members of the local media attended the event this afternoon, while over 175 supporters of the softball program came out to “Meet the Lady Mocs” in the evening.

The Woodbridge Township Department of Recreation and Resident Services is now accepting teams for the 2010 Adult Softball League. There are both men’s and women’s divisions.

A hastily organized winter softball tournament raised $2,000 for the Brunswick Food Pantry Sunday. Longtime softball enthusiast and umpire George Arenschield of Brunswick organized the event after reading a recent Brunswick Sun article about the food pantry, which recently relocated to new quarters, and its work helping those in need in the community.

Western Nevada College’s softball team notched its first win of the season ater losing five straight games, including its season opener against the defending 2009 NJCAA Division I national champions, Yavapai College of Arizona, at a tournament in Las Vegas.
